Mother's Day Accessory

When I was younger, I can remember thinking about what I would get my mom for Mother's day. I think they would have a little "fair" of sorts in one of the upstairs rooms of the "old school" and you could buy trinkets for your mom (everything was really inexpensive). I am sure I got something "nice" for my mom & she proudly wore it all day.

Yesterday, I was that mom - - In my card, there was an assortment of stickers, one of which being the World's Greatest Mommy Sticker (seen above). After I got dressed to go to the bike store, I put it onto my shirt. BK said "you dont have to wear it out in public" and I said "no I want to" All day I wore it. In fact, at the end of the day, I peeled it off my shirt and put it next to my computer. Its a little ripped & "worn", but its no worse for the wear..the sentiment is still the same. In my girls eyes, I am "excelente" and "fantastica". I don't know if I can be crowned "worlds greatest mommy", but I sure do try.

A new ride....

Earlier this week, I found out what I was getting for mothers day.. BK had cooked up a good plan & RAR spilled the beans. It would've been still somewhat of a surprise, except I asked about it. RAR had told me a few things were coming my way - a drum (with drumsticks), a dinosaur, and a bike.... well, guess which I got? That's right, a bike... BK had done some research (and you know how BK always researches things before they are purchased in our household) and so the plan went that they were going to take me straight to the bike shop & let me pick out my bike.

However, since RAR had said "a bike" earlier in the week, I had been tipped off. So I asked BK "am I getting a bike?" and he said "why do you have to ruin it?" So Sat am, we planned to head on over after nap.. however, we didnt realize the store closed at 4, not 5, so we whip up, and there is a big CLOSED Sign. All H breaks loose in the back seat as RAR melts down "I WANTED TO GO TO THE BIKE SHOPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP" this goes on for awhile.. there is no calming her down. So we divert over the library where we need to sit into the car until we can calm down...

Fast forward to Sunday am... I sleep in, then get a yummy breakfast, a shower and am ready to start the day. After RMR wakes up from her am nap, we head over to the bike shop - BK shows me the ones he looked at (one had already been sold) and I find one I like - take it outside the store & zip up & down the street. Thats the one! so we also get a helmet for me & one for RAR (As she has been wearing BK's when she rides her trike). We decide I should prob ride home since the bike wont fit into the back of the car (it probably wouldve fit, but still) so the family heads home & off I go. I was really enjoying zipping through the streets of Qtown..

Went on a few more rides thru the hood today and had a great dinner (ribs on the grill). All in all, a really fab day. BK & my girls made it so special. I did miss being w/my mom - everyone was at my cousins for dinner, but I couldnt have asked for a better day. It's days like this when you sit back & say a little prayer b/c I don't know if it gets any better than this.

Origin of Blog's name

I had a difficult time figuring out what to title my blog. This seems strange to me, b/c I rarely have a hard time with words. I love to write, love cards and always think about how fun it would be to own a hallmark store or at least be a writer for hallmark.

So I needed something clever... but what? The reason I came up with "once upon a time there was a girl named..." stems from RAR. During her "preparation" for both nap & bed, after her books, she likes us to tell a "once upon a time story" Sometimes they are about real things that happened that day, and sometimes she will ask us "tell me about a story about a horse" (she's never even ridden a horse!).. So the stories all start out "once upon a time, there was a girl named.. " then go on to tell the story...

So once upon a time, I started a blog... an online diary... a way to express myself....

Weekend & Waking up at night

We had a good weekend. BK did ALOT of work in the yard & RAR was a big helper. Planted some wild grasses to try to cut down on the foot traffic across the infamous easement. BK also put down some lawn soil & grass seed. Watched the Derby & did not see Slic Nic on TV... Reilly enjoyed yelling GO BARBARO...

Am trying to figure out why RAR is waking up so much in the night now. For almost 2 years, we never heard a peep from her. My theory (that I like to tell BK at 2am) is that she has to go potty but doesnt realize that is why she is waking up. Before, she would just pee, but now, she has an awareness since she's in panties all day & so she wakes up in the night or early morning - initally yells to be covered up, but then yells again, so BK takes her to the potty. Notice I say BK b/c I seem to have african sleeping sickness at night and he hears her before I do, so is already hopping out of bed. My other theory is that she is starting to dream & that wakes her up as well? I think she is still too little to try to go potty by herself at night (still in a diaper at night & still in a crib, but not for long)

RAR is so funny. I am going to try to document more of her sayings of the day. This am she was asking again "Why did Bill B win the big big horse race" Its funny b/c she thinks that Barbaro was called "Bill B" (who happens to be a guy BK's works with)

RMR is starting to "talk" too. She is saying "Ma Ma" and Ball (or trying). I also think she was saying Da Da the other night before bed, but I can't get her to replicate it again.
